Methodology

How WyPy teaches thinking.

We treat learning as a cognitive discipline grounded in judgment and sense-making. Every course is built on frameworks rooted in science and mathematics that put internal coherence ahead of memorization.

Four principles

What every lesson is built on.

These four ideas shape every course, every module and every problem we write.

Clear logic

Every rule is derived before it is used. Students see where an idea comes from, so when they forget a formula they can rebuild it instead of looking it up.

In a lessonBefore using the area of a triangle, students cut a rectangle along its diagonal and discover ½ × base × height themselves.

Visual thinking

Ideas begin as pictures, diagrams and interactive models. Notation comes only after the meaning is clear, so symbols stand for something students can already see.

In a lessonFractions start as a bar you can split, shade and recombine. The symbols ¾ and 6⁄8 arrive once students have seen they are the same amount.

Step-by-step

Lessons are short and carefully sequenced. Every step has a checkpoint, so a gap is caught the day it appears instead of compounding for months.

In a lessonIn Python, students trace a program line by line on paper and predict its output before they ever run it.

Judgment

Students estimate, check and explain. The goal is knowing why an answer is right, and noticing quickly when an answer cannot be right.

In a lessonBefore solving, students guess the size of the answer. Afterwards they compare, and explain any difference in one sentence.
Inside a lesson

The WyPy lesson loop.

Each lesson moves through the same five stages, so students always know what kind of thinking comes next.

01

Question

Every lesson opens with a problem worth thinking about, before any explanation.

02

Explore

Students experiment with a visual or interactive model and form a first idea.

03

Explain

The idea is made precise, step by step, and connected to what they already know.

04

Practise

Short, varied problems with immediate feedback build fluency without rote.

05

Reflect

Students explain the idea in their own words, which shows what has really stuck.

Factory education

  • Memorise the formula, reproduce it in the exam
  • Shortcuts and tricks without reasons
  • Speed over understanding
  • Learning as a transaction

WyPy way

  • Derive the idea, then use it with confidence
  • Clear logic you can explain to someone else
  • Depth first — speed follows naturally
  • Learning as a cognitive discipline
Learning path

A clear route from zero to fluent.

Each stage builds the mental models the next one needs. No gaps, no leaps of faith.
